Spirit of conference incomparable, Lehi couple says

Waiting in line for the Sunday afternoon session of conference, Richard and Pam Norby huddled under an umbrella, shielding them from the cold October rain. In a line that wound its way along others in the Conference Center plaza, the couple from Lehi, Utah, acknowledged watching conference on television or listening to it on the radio would be much easier.

However, Richard said the spirit at the conference center is incomparable, making the experience much more meaningful than simply hearing the talks from the couch. And not content to just listen at the Conference Center, the Norbys spend the days and weeks before conference readying themselves to hear from prophets and apostles.

"We do more than just attend," Richard said, citing personal prayer, scripture study and reading past conference talks as some ways they prepare themselves, as well as praying for the speakers who will deliver addresses. During conference, the Norbys are engaged, too.

"We come to find answers to questions," Pam Norby said. The answers they seek are usually in relation to their callings. Richard, for example, is president of the Orem Utah College 1st Stake, a Mormon student stake, so he looks for ways to better train new bishops and care for the members of his stake.
