Benton Paul is in high demand for "trois" (three) reasons: Un, he just got off tour with Brooke White and Michael Johns from American Idol. Deux, this holiday season he'll be joining David Archuleta on his Christmas tour. Trois, this week he released a brand new EP (extended play as opposed to a single), "Trois" on iTunes. His song "Run" is featured as this week's free Discovery Download on iTunes -- not an easy spot to get.

Benton Paul from Highland, Utah.

Paul is a singer/songwriter from Highland, Utah. I've been a fan of his music for a few years. I was lucky to have him open for me at my CD Release concert back in 2007.

After seeing him open for David Archuleta and Brooke White, what stands out to me the most about Benton is that he continues to get better and better. His songwriting skills continue to expand, and his stage presence is stronger with each performance. Music is definitely inside of him and he loves to share it.

His favorite thing about being on tour?

"Playing shows every night! Correctly executing a live show is the greatest feeling in the world," Paul said.

Paul wanted "Moon," a song off of his new EP, to have different interpretations. "One might think I'm singing to a girl -- pleading with her to stay by my side. Another might think I'm singing to God -- a God who is constant and always shining His light down during darker times," he said. "Both interpretations would be correct."

At the moment, "Moon" is #79 on the iTunes pop chart -- pretty impressive for an unsigned artist!

Paul said, "It's a fight to make a good living as a musician. The higher you get, the deeper you go, the more time and money you invest. You have to be ready for that. This is all I see and do. It's all I've ever dreamt of doing."

I would say Benton is a dreamer -- a dreamer who goes after his dreams. He doesn't sit around waiting for someone else to make things happen.

I asked Benton what advice he would give to others following their dreams. He said, "This might come across as obvious, but I'm noticing more and more how honing in on a specific emotion is an essential part of performing and recording. A dreamer has natural tendencies to dream all day long. If the dreamer fuses dreams with hard work, then adds emotion, talent, and passion...that dreamer is well on the way."

Be sure to check out his new EP "Trois" on iTunes -- one of the tracks is up for free download until Tuesday.
