Chelsey Stallings has music flowing through her veins.
Stallings is one of the semifinalists chosen so far in the Summer Showcase. She has been singing since she was young but started pursuing a career in music seven years ago. Her vocal coach is Dean Kaelin, who also coached David Archuleta.
Not only does music flow through her veins, but it also flows through her life. She writes songs inspired by experiences in her own life and other's lives as well.
"I have been writing for about 13 years and my inspiration really just jumps up and bites me at random times," Stallings said.
When Stallings' brother was in the hospital for back surgery, she met a little girl who inspired her Showcase song, "Saving Grace."

"My brother and my mother lived in the hospital for two months, and during that time we spent many hours with them. We met a young girl there who had been in for many surgeries -- she had been practically living there for years. Even though she was struggling more than almost anyone, she remained sweet with a sunny disposition and cheered my brother up on more than one occasion. We love her for it, and I wanted to write an 'Ode to her.' I wanted to share her story," Stallings said. "I thought it might inspire those going through trials of their own or just struggling through life's ups and downs."
Stallings understands that life can be tough. She hopes the messages in her music uplift and touch peoples' lives.
"If my music can make someone laugh, cry tears of joy or ease pain," Stallings said, "I am doing what I wish to accomplish."
And she has already inspired many of her listeners. Last year, she performed at a motivational concert at a youth correctional facility.
"Later," Stallings said, "I heard that one of the kids listened to my CD every night before bed to give them strength. That really touched me."
Stallings is thrilled to be in the semi-finals and is very grateful for all the support she has received from her friends, family, and fans.
"When I am on stage performing," Stallings said, "I am at my happiest, and when I can touch someone with a song, I am in heaven."
In Summer Showcase, there are three rounds of voting that will determine 12 semifinalists. The musicians who have the top six videos at the end of final voting will be featured at a live concert in Utah. The top vote-getter, who will win a $5,000 first prize, will be announced at the concert. Second prize will be $2,000 and third prize will be $1,000. For more information, go to www.mormontimes.com.
