PHOENIX -- A proposal to build a new Mormon temple
in north Phoenix moved a step closer to reality after getting the green
light from a village planning committee.
The Deer Valley Village Planning Committee recently approved The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' request to build a large temple with a spire on an empty lot it bought at 5104 W. Pinnacle Peak Road, west of its existing church.
Church officials want a building that is 48 feet tall with 78 feet of steeple and spire. But the land's existing residential zoning caps a building's height at 30 feet.
