'If the Savior Stood Beside Me'
Thursday, Jan. 08, 2009
Fourteen images produced by a noted LDS artist and the words to a recently introduced Primary song are featured in the new book "If the Savior Stood Beside Me."

The new release is a collection of works by Greg Olsen. The paintings found in the hardcover book are printed on sturdy 10-by-11 pages and accompanied by simple captions in large print, providing a suitable format for children. LDS adults, however, will likely be familiar with many of the works, especially the depiction of Christ's baptism.

Not all the images, however, are based directly on scriptural text. For example, Olsen portrays several children in his art, some who are interacting with the Savior and some who are shown expressing their reverence for him. One work features Christ visiting on a park bench with a seemingly concerned teenager.

"I hope that the concept of a Savior who is so real and approachable will inspire us to seek him out," Olsen said in a news release.

The words that accompany the art are based on Sally DeFord's Primary song "If the Savior Stood Beside Me," which was written more than a decade ago but recently introduced. The song's words are printed on the final page.

"If the Savior Stood Beside Me" (November 2008) is published by Covenant Communications.
