Though his native Arizona roots and his love for the Southwest run deep, his profound love for the gospel and his commitment to service have taken him to many places around the world.

As a young man, Wilford W. Andersen left Mesa to serve a mission in the Argentina South Mission. Then, in 2002 through 2005, with his wife Kathleen, he served as mission president of the Mexico Guadalajara Mission.

In April 2007, he was called to the Sixth Quorum of the Seventy to serve in the North America Southwest Area. Then, two years later, in April 2009, he was sustained as a member of the Second Quorum of the Seventy. With that call has now come another assignment that is far from Arizona.

In August, the Andersens reported to the Dominican Republic, where Elder Andersen will serve as the second counselor in the Caribbean Area.

Sister Andersen says she and Elder Andersen look forward to their service in the area that she describes as "beautiful, and very different."
